How online sessions work
Online therapy isn't a lesser version of in-person work. For most clients, the depth and effectiveness are identical — what matters is the therapeutic relationship and the modality, not whether we're in the same room. Sessions run through TherapyNotes' built-in telehealth platform, which is HIPAA-compliant and encrypted end-to-end. Sessions run exactly the same as they would in person.
EMDR works effectively over video. For online sessions, I use a BLS app I built (Bright Eyed Therapist) that runs directly in your browser — visual stimulation through your screen, with optional audio if you prefer. No app installation, no extra accounts. The processing is the same as in-person — the bilateral stimulation accesses the same neural pathways regardless of delivery method.
ERP for OCD and anxiety also translates directly to online sessions. In many cases, doing exposures in your actual environment (rather than an office) can be more effective because the work happens where the anxiety lives.
